Religion in the World of Anaan
Religion in Sensortus is largely subdivided into two interpretations of the common mythology most people of the realm take to be true. Anaan is commonly believed to be an ancient world, created by a singular, all-powerful creator deity, also named Anaan, who has withdrawn from the world. The earliest and most ancient of legends have prophesied the world will see seven Great Sunsets, with the last heralding the end-times for creation. Many believe that the world has already seen six of these sunsets, each heralding the changing of an era.
What is different between the two large sects is their beliefs about Anaan the Creator, and his fate.
- The Druids, practitioners of the Old Way, believe that Anaan’s absence is an illusion. They hold that Anaan cannot be seperate from his creation, that Anaan is the very bones of the earth. They believe that he slumbers, soon to reawaken and end the world in fire at the Seventh Sunset.
- The common religion among the city-states of Men, which make up one part of the Five Spoke Pact, is that of the Occillary, or the Eight Strangers. A pantheon of anthropomorphic deities from another realm originally that spiritually “bought out” Anaan from his creation, banishing him, and setting the current world in motion when the foremost deity of the pantheon fixed the world in Time – the First Sunset, and the start of the Second Era.
